Things here are going really well. Since learning how to roll over both ways, Aidan is quickly learning to use it as a mode of transportation. I set him down on his blanket with some toys, walked away for 5 seconds (maybe) and he had rolled himself halfway across the living room in pursuit of a dog toy he had been eyeing. And so it begins...
I really thought we were going to have more of an issue with Maddie going after Aidan's toys, but it turns out she really is the smart dog we always thought she was. The other morning Maddie was whining her head off and I went into our room to see what was wrong. Her dog bone had landed in the middle of some of Aidan's toys (she throws them and plays fetch with herself), and while she really wanted her bone, she didn't want to mess with his toys. I told her it was ok and she gingerly went and got her bone and did her best not to touch the rest. She was of course rewarded with lots of doggie treats. Unfortunately, Aidan is not so easy to placate and we have to make sure Maddie's toys are not strewn everywhere for him to get his "paws" on.
Aidan has also started talking to himself in his mirror. We have it strapped to the top of his exercise mat so when he lays on his back, he can look up at himself. He lays there and talks, waits for a response and then talks some more.
We've also started Aidan on a sippy cup. He's very interested in it and does ok. We're only giving him water, because despite it saying it is leak proof, it really isn't. Aidan hasn't learned to seal his mouth around the spout and every time he bites down on it, water goes pretty much everywhere. Some of it is landing in his mouth, which just encourages him to bite more.
Aidan isn't sleeping swaddled anymore. He sleeps with one of the quilts his Grandma made for him. He uses the other blanket his Nana made for him as his "blankie". He loves anything soft.
Here are some cute pictures we took last night while Aidan was practicing sitting up on his own. He still falls over, but he's able to stay up for longer periods of time.
Much Love,
~The Newtons
